The NCAA Fantasy League is a 90-team, seven conference league that is set to mirror the NCAA. With features like a Top 25, specialized scheduling, football bowl games and basketball tournament games, this league is like few others.
What a few of you have already noticed is that I ask for help from any league member willing to. With such a large number of owners, I know that this league will need a good amount of work and I know I cannot provide all of it.
Coach Poll Voter @konner88 also finds the help from owners to be 'very intriguing.'
"From the committee to the weekly polls, owners get to decide the direction the league goes in," said @konner88. "We can either became a fun, engaging, active league, or a dull, boring, inactive league."
While he hopes the NCAA Fantasy League can become a league that thrives and lasts for years, he also enjoys the thought of a NCAA Committee deciding what teams will participate in the basketball tournament and football bowl games and playoff.
"The idea of having the College Football Playoff and NCAA Tournament is really cool as well," @konner88 said. "So, if your team scores lots of points but gets unlucky with matchups, you still have a shot."
He is absolutely right in that regard. If your basketball or football team has a few off weeks, that doesn't necessarily mean you are out of the hunt. It is one of the aspects of the league that I put in so that the league would stay competitive throughout the season, regardless of where your team sits at a particular time.
That being said, that aspect also makes the league tougher to win. Instead of being nine, 11 or 13 other owners, you will have to first beat your conference, then win postseason games in order to be crowned the champion over 89 other teams.
I personally expect basketball 'March Madness' to be even crazier than the actual NCAA Tournament. For football, the bowl games should all be tightly-contested matchups. The College Football Playoff should also be really fun to watch.
For @konner88, winning it all will come down to three aspects, 'dedication, skill and luck.'
"Dedication is key. To win, you must be on the top of your game every week, whether it's setting your lineup or searching the waiver wire," @konner88 said. "Skill will also play a huge role, mainly in the draft. If you can assemble a balanced and talented team, then the season could be a blast. Lastly, luck is the most important thing. I hate to say it, but without luck, you cannot win. One untimely injury or off-game by a player can derail your season. One unlucky matchup could add another L in the loss column."
As owners prepare for the upcoming fantasy seasons, dedication, skill and luck will certainly play a part. Each owner has their own strategy in terms of building a fantasy team. Being a keeper league, there might be teams who draft young and build for the future. Others may draft the best available player each pick, regardless of age.
Only time will tell what strategy will pay off. There is one thing I can guarantee though, if you make it to the top and do win a title, don't expect it to last for long. Just like the NCAA, there are rarely back-to-back champions. There might be a dynasty team that has success for a number of consecutive years, but you just never know when that sleeper is going to show up. What team will you be?
I wish you all a good fantasy season and look forward to competing against you all!
